Cleaners
When it comes to house cleaning, 99% of the products we purchase are sold in plastic bottles! Or worse, disposable wipes…
All purpose cleaner, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, fabric softener, glass cleaner, stainless steel cleaner, floor cleaner, toilet cleaner, … for a family, this probably represents more than 30 bottles a year if not more.
Do we need all this? NO
Can we clean our homes without plastic and harsh chemicals? YES!!!
First things first…choose products with safe ingredients. These things come into contact with your family and pets on a daily basis. You don't only want a clean home, you want a "clean" home.
Avoid at all costs…Ammonia, chlorine bleach, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, sodium or potassium hydroxide, ethanolamines, synthetic fragrances, triclosan. And there are many more.
Don't be fooled by greenwashing and pretty packaging. You can look on the EWG website to check for any harmful and toxic ingredients on any product you use.
Next, the plastic problem.
Refill, refill, refill. Save those empty containers and bring them in to refill with safe, non-toxic, but totally effective alternatives.
Or.
Make your own. The internet is loaded with simple, safe, non-toxic recipes for everyday cleaning, such as laundry soap, glass cleaner, and toilet cleaner. If you are so inclined, give it a try.
Keeping all of those plastic bottles of cleaners from coming into your house will do wonders for your family and the planet.
